Thank you for your thoughtful response. The original article opines that Murray Rothbard’s argument that parents should be allowed to allow their children to starve, and therefore all libertarians must believe this. I think this is wrong.

You support the author, by saying ‘This is exactly what modern American libertarians believe”. This is categorically untrue, but let’s take a look at why you think we are all exactly like Murray Rothbard.

On healthcare: you’ll have to explain why the cost of healthcare rises faster than inflation and correlates with increased government involvement to convince libertarians that even more government involvement is a good thing. Why don’t we negotiate directly on prices for healthcare? Government regulation. Dr. Ron Paul was a physician and treated many people for free, as was the expectation when he practiced. Government changed that.

Most libertarians don’t believe prisons should be privatized, as it creates perverse incentives for recidivism.

On gun control: yes, we believe owning a gun is a right and are concerned with a government comfortable with taking those rights. People who kill with guns are a symptom of a sick society and healing a sick society doesn’t include treating everyone like children. We should legislate for the society we strive to be-responsible, charitable and healthy.

I’ll have to remind you, libertarians were on the forefront of freedom, espousing the right for gay people to marry long before the democratic party and are the party most likely to stop the stupid drug war-which Biden and Harris seem hellbent on fighting.
